How do You measure up?

Taking measurements is easy, there's just a couple of things to bear in mind.
Areas to be measured should be without clothing. When measuring limbs, use your dominant side (i.e. if you are right handed, then measure your right side limbs). Try always to be consistent about where you measure. The tape measure should be tightened so that it is firm but not pinching and squeezing the skin.
To determine your Frame Size, take a tape measure and measure around your wrist as shown in the graphic on the left. Make sure that the tape measure is held firmly but not pinching the skin. The tape measure should be placed between the wrist bone and the start of the hand at it's narrowest point.
Use the table below to determine if your Frame Size is small, medium or large:
| Height - Women | Small Frame | Medium Frame | Large Frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| < 157.5 cm | < 140 mm | 140 - 146 mm | 146 mm + |
| 157.5 - 165 cm | < 152 mm | 152 - 159 mm | 159 mm + |
| > 165 cm | < 159 mm | 159 - 165 mm | 165 mm + |
| Height - Men | |||
| 163 cm + | 140 - 165 mm | 156 - 191 mm | 191 mm + |
To obtain a full range of calculations - BMI, Healthy Weight, Percent Body Fat, Lean Body Mass, Waist to Height Ratio, Resting Metabolic Rate and Required Daily Calories - body measurements need to be taken on which to base the calculations. These measurements should be always taken in the same way and on the same points to obtain a certain amount of continuity.
Distribute your body weight evenly and measure the calf at the widest part.
Distribute your body weight evenly and measure the upper part of your thigh at the widest part.
Standing with your feet at hip distance apart, measure around the fullest part of your buttock making sure to keep the tape measure at an equal level (i.e. parallel)
Make your hand into a fist and measure around the fullest part of the forearm.
Women:
In a relaxed standing position, measure at one inch above your belly button, or wherever your waist is at the smallest part.
Men:
In a relaxed standing position, measure at one inch below your belly button or at the peak of the belly (whichever is the widest)
Measure your wrist at the narrowest point between the hand and the wrist bone.
